πŸ™ŒπŸ» Job Referral

If you’re looking for a referral to Robinhood, I’m genuinely happy to help! But do read through this first, it’ll save us both time, and set you up for the best shot.

πŸ‘€ Step 1: Find the right opening

All public roles are on job board. Those are the only ones I can refer you to.

Before you reach out, be honest with yourself:

  • Do you fit the role description by at least 75%?
  • Do you meet the job level / years of experience requirement?
Even when YoE isn’t explicitly stated, the salary range is a reliable signal. A starting range of $166,000 for a general software engineer in Zone 1 typically implies 2–3 years of experience. If you’re a new grad with less than 1 YoE, make sure you have a compelling narrative to bridge that gap.

I won’t check if you tick all the boxes, my stance is to refer broadly and let the recruiters do their job. That said, a level mismatch without a strong justification gets filtered out in seconds. Be strategic.

Nothing suitable right now?

New roles drop regularly. Set up a job alert on Greenhouse, and circle back when the right one appears.

It’s far better to show up as a standout candidate at the right moment than to fire off applications all year and be background noise when it counts.

πŸ“§ Step 2: Drop me an email

Send the following to job-referral@tomy.me.

- *First name
- *Last name
- Preferred first name
- Current Company
- Current Title
- *Email
- Phone
- Social Media URL
- Website
- *LinkedIn
- *Job URL (at most three)
- *Resume
- Cover Letter

Asterisks (*) are required, everything else is optional.

This inbox is exclusively for referral requests. Please don’t use it for anything else, or you’ll be blocked.

Remember to double-check that your resume is attached. You’d be surprised. ;-)

βœ… Step 3: Watch for confirmation

I send referrals in batches on most workdays. Once yours goes through, you’ll receive a confirmation email from Greenhouse with further instructions. That confirmation means you’re in the pipeline. Our recruiters will reach out directly if your profile catches their eye.

No word after 3 days? Feel free to nudge me.

πŸ™ŒπŸ» Step 4: Pay it forward

Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn if we haven’t already.

I know how exhausting and demoralizing job searching can be. I’ve been through it too, and what carried me through was the kindness of people who didn’t have to show up for me, but did anyway. The candid feedback, the warm encouragement, the referrals from near-strangers, it meant more than they probably knew.

This page is my small attempt to return that warmth to the world.

So my only ask is this: when you land somewhere great, remember how this felt, and be that person for someone else. 🫢🏻

With that, I wishing you all the best! Not just in the job search, but in everything that comes after. ✌🏻
